Description
A Guedel Airway is a medical device made of rigid plastic or rubber shaped like a curved tube with a flange at one end. It is inserted into the mouth and positioned in the oropharynx (the middle part of the throat) to maintain an open airway. The flange rests against the lips and prevents the airway from being completely inserted and obstructing the larynx (voice box). It is commonly used in unconscious patients or those with compromised airway reflexes to prevent the tongue from falling back and blocking the airway, facilitating effective ventilation and oxygenation.
