Ligature Training – Course

Description

This highly practical ligature training course is aimed at those who need to undertake “ligature rescue”/ “anti-ligature” / “ligature response” training and who hold an in-date first aid certificate.

Since the Covid-19 lockdown, we have seen a surge in requests for anti ligature (ligature response) training. Our bespoke 4-hour face-to-face course will teach you ligature awareness training, introduce ligature risk assessments and how to use multiple different types of ligature cutters.

This makes ligature removal training essential (and in some cases a statutory requirement) for staff & family members who;

• work within the prison or probation services,
• work in hospitals, refuges, mental health or crisis intervention sectors,
• work with young people in residential care & referral schools.
• are foster carers,
• work in other higher risk environments,
• support people with complex needs and who may have issues such as physical and mental health, child welfare, family and relationship breakdown, offending behaviour, historic abuse, bereavement, substance misuse, sexual exploitation, domestic violence, childhood trauma and/or self-harm.

The course then moves on to cover modified basic life support first aid training for those involved in a ligature incident. This includes how to protect the cervical spine in the supine and recovery position, modified CPR for those who have ligated, the use of automatic/automated external defibrillators (AED).

Combined, these will mean that you can provide effective first aid until professional help can take over.

The course is aimed at those working in environments where incidents involving ligatures are a foreseeable risk. So if you’re ever faced with a ligature incident, the training will enable you to act safely and decisively.

• Age: You must be over 18 years old to undertake the ligature removal training course due to the topics covered in the syllabus.
• First Aid: You must hold a current, in-date first aid certificate (e.g. Emergency first aid at work, First aid at work, Outdoor first aid, etc).
• Comprehension: We recommend that you have a reasonable understanding of English & maths (e.g. GCSE grade D-G/Level 1) before undertaking this course.

  Throughout the course, you will undertake practical assessments and must score 100% to pass.

  During the practical observation, you will be required to demonstrate how to act in an emergency situation, including performing a dynamic risk assessment for ligature awareness, successfully using ligature cutting tools, and providing CPR and using a defibrillator on the floor.

  Upon completion of the course candidates will receive a certificate which is available as a PDF (Portable Document Format).
