Course Description

This qualification is for those undertaking the role of a first aider in the workplace. The qualification has the additional assessment criterion for managing a catastrophic bleed. This is ideal for those working in higher risk environments as outlined by the Health and Safety Executive.

Course Duration

This course is delivered over three days as a face to face course.

Pre-Requisites

This qualification is available to those over 16 years.

Due to the language of the assessment, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language in order to understand the assessment and to undertake the recommended assessment methods.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate First Aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.

Course Content

This course covers a range of content including:

  • Roles and Responsibilities of a First Aider
  • Assessment of an incident
  • Unresponsive Casualties
  • Choking
  • Wounds and Bleeding
  • Shock
  • Secondary survey
  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Eye injuries
  • Suspected poisoning
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Major illnesses

Course Assessment

For this course learners are required to undertake an invigilated MCQ paper, and observed practical tasks which must be passed in order to complete the course.
Learners must have sufficient command of the English language to understand and undertake the recommended assessment methods for this qualification and it is strongly recommended that learners should be working at level 2 English literacy. 

Certificate and Validity

Upon completion of the course including the submission and approval by QNUK of the relevant course paperwork, candidates will receive a certificate which is valid for a period of three years.
